Borrowing and Returning Resources

Please use the self service machines on the ground floor of each Library for borrowing and returning resources:

  • you need your Campus Card and PIN to borrow from the Library but you can return your loans without them
  • video guides on how to use the self issue machine to borrow and return resources are also available
  • remember to keep your receipt - it's your responsibility to know when your loans are due back and return or renew them on time
  • our security system will be triggered if you leave with resources that haven't been borrowed
  • you can return your loans to either campus (except Interlibrary Loans and Short Loans)
  • if you can't get to the Library to borrow, you may be able to use our Pay-to-Post service to have items posted to you
  • if the Library doesn't have the books you need you may be eligible to use our Interlibrary Loans service
  • you can borrow laptops from the self-service lockers on the ground floor of each Library. Instructions on how to use them are available from the Laptop Loan pagesPlease note that laptop loans are classed as Short Loans, they count towards your Short Loan allocation and late returns are fined at 50p per hour/part hour.

How many items can I borrow?

Undergraduate students (full and part time)

15 items in total, including a maximum of 8 audio visual and 5 Short Loans (please note laptop loans are classed as one of your Short Loans)

Postgraduate students

17 items in total, including 5 Short Loans (please note laptop loans are classes as one of your Short Loans)

Students on teacher training courses

15 items in total, plus 10 items from the School Practice collection

Disabled users (registered with the Disability, Dyslexia and Assessment Centre)

15 items in total, with an extended loan period of 4 weeks for all items, excluding audio visual resources and Short Loans

Staff / Researchers

25 items, including a maximum of 8 audio visual and 5 Short Loans

Registered Offsite users

8 items, for a loan period of up to 4 weeks

Guest users 

5 items, no Short Loans or audio visual resources

FE College Partners

5 items, no Short Loans or audio visual resources

Leeds International Study Centre students

5 items, no Short Loans or audio visual resources

Your Library account

Log in to your Library account via the Catalogue or the Library tab in MyBeckett to:

  • check your loans
  • renew
  • see if your holds are ready to collect
  • change your PIN for borrowing
  • pay fines online


How long can I borrow for?

Standard Loans

2 weeks.  If these books are in high demand the loan period may temporarily change to 1 week.

Staff and researchers can borrow standard loans for 8 weeks.  If a hold is placed on them they will be recalled.

Short Loans

Overnight / 3 days / reference only. The date label inside tells you how long you can borrow these for.

School Practice Collection

Students on teaching practice can borrow these for 4 weeks.

Other users can borrow for 2 weeks.

What happens if I lose my book?

If you lose or damage anything you have on loan please tell Library staff immediately.

If you don't find them you'll be expected to pay the replacement cost.

If your loans become very overdue without being reported as lost you'll receive an invoice for the replacement cost.
