This page is designed to help you find tests, measures and research instruments used in Psychology.

Finding psychological tests, measures and research instruments can be quite tricky. This page aims to help you in finding them wherever available. The best way to find tests and measures is to use the databases listed below. All the databases listed can be found by clicking on the Databases tab of this guide.

Cinahl

Cinahl uses the term 'Research Instruments' when referring to tests. To search for tests around a specific topic there are 2 ways to search. From the Advanced Search page;

  • Search for Research Instruments
  • Click in the Suggest subject term box
  • then click on the Search button
  • On the next page, click in the Explode tickbox next to Research Instruments
  • Then click on the green Search Dtabase button
  • Then add your topic search term and click on the Search button again
  • Click on the title of the article and scroll to the Instrumentation field to see which test were used.

OR

  • On the Advanced Search webpage enter your topic search terms in the search box
  • Scroll down to the Limits section and under Publication Type, scroll through and select Questionnaire/Scale.

You can also browse through a full list of tests by following the instructions for PsycINFO/ PsycARTICLES.

When you want to find articles or research that have used a specific test;

  • Enter the name of the test in the search box e.g. Beck Depression Inventory
  • In the drop down box next to the search box choose IN Instrumentation
  • Click Search

PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES

There are several ways of searching for tests in PsycINFO/ PsycARTICLES depending upon what you need to know. To find articles about instruments related to your topic:

  • Click on the Advanced Search link 
  • Enter your topic search term e.g. anorexia 
  • Click on the drop down list next to your search box and
  • Choose TM Tests and Measures 
  • Then click on the Search button

To check which tests or measures have been used,

  • Click on the article title,
  • Scroll to the Tests & Measures section to see what has been used.

N.B. In the Test & Measures field, if the test has Appended next to it, this means that the test may be included in full-text format in the article in the appendix.

To search for articles which might have the test/ instrument in the appendix, from the Advanced search link;

  • Enter your topic search term and choose SU-Subjects from the drop down list
  • In the next search box enter the word appended & from the drop down list choose TM Tests & Measures
  • Click on the Search button & view the full-text of the article.

To search for a list of tests which have been used for a specific topic;

  • Enter your topic search term
  • Click on the Search button
  • On the left side of the screen under Refine Results scroll down to Tests & Measures
  • You will see a list of the most popular tests and measures used for your specific topic.
  • To see more tests, click on the show more link
  • Click in the tick box next to any tests you would like to investigate
  • Click Update
  • Click on the article title of any relevant results and scroll down to the Tests & Measures section to see which have been used.

To search for specific tests:

  • From the Advanced Search page
  • Enter the name of the test in the search box e.g. Wechster Adult Intelligence Scale
  • Select TM Tests & Measures from the drop down list next to the search box
  • Click search

You should see a list of articles which have used that measure.

To browse through the entire list of tests.

  • From the Advanced Search page
  • Hover over MORE at the top of the page
  • Choose Indexes
  • In the Browse and Index box, click on the drop down list and choose T & M Tests and Measures
  • Select Browse
  • Choose appropriate tests by clicking in the tick box next to the test title
  • Click on the Search button at the top of the page
