The Library: University Staff

This page contains links to services within the Library that you can direct your student to if they need further support with academic matters.

You can refer your student to:

One-to-one appointments with Academic Librarians, Information Services Librarians or Academic Skills Tutors

If your student needs academic skills support, they can use the Get Help Form to book a face-to-face or online appointment with the Library's Academic Support Team. Here they can receive advice on skills such as academic writing, finding library resources and referencing, as well as maths and statistics, and support with English as an Additional Language.

MyBeckett skills modules

There are a range of short MyBeckett modules that students can work through to help them develop their academic skills. Each module can be completed at the student's own pace and can be revisited throughout the year. Links to all of the modules are on the Library academic skills module page and students can self-enrol onto any that they would like to work through. We would also encourage you to promote these by adding links on your own MyBeckett pages to the relevant modules for your students.

Skills for Learning website

The Skills for Learning website has a wealth of information and downloadable material on topics such as academic writing, research skills and statistical analysis. The Building on Feedback is a useful page to direct your student to.

Skills for Learning workshops

Throughout the year there are Skills for Learning workshops that students from any course or level can attend. Workshops are interactive group sessions that can help improve academic communication, statistical analysis, IT, referencing and study skills. Encourage your students to find more information and book onto the events on MyHub. Students can also request recordings of previous workshops from skills.for.learning@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Subject guides

If your student needs help knowing what resources they should be using, they can be shown the relevant subject guide. These encourage students to become self-reliant in their library research and digital literacy skills. Students can also find their Academic Librarian team email address on these pages if they have any questions about resources or research.

Academic integrity and referencing guidance

Students can enrol onto the Academic Integrity MyBeckett module which provides information, videos and activities to introduce them to AI at our University. There is also referencing guidance for all styles used at Leeds Beckett on our Referencing and Avoiding Plagiarism page and students can book appointments for support too. In-curriculum sessions can be delivered to your students on AI and referencing, alongside colleagues from the Students' Union Advice Service. To request a session and to see the range of other sessions offered, see TeachLearn.

Library and Student IT Advice

The Library Advice Team can be contacted 24/7 if your student has queries on research and referencing skills, borrowing, passwords, MyBeckett, email, Wi-Fi, Turnitin, online meeting tools, Office 365, or other IT issues. There is also a wealth of IT support on the Student IT Support web pages.

Library disability support

The Disability Support Team can support any students registered with University Disability Advice. They help with assistive software, using Library services and equipment, finding your way around the Library, research and referencing, obtaining items in accessible formats, or any Library query. They also support the Disability Resource Areas at each Library which provide a silent study space for independent study for students registered with Disability Advice.

Library international student support

The Library Academic Support Team can help students who are new to studying in the UK, or whose English is an additional language. You can show your student an overview of all the support offered on the International Students page. The International Students' Academic Introduction Module is delivered every September and January and includes live webinars. International students are automatically enrolled onto the module but we strongly encourage you to mention it to any relevant students you support.
